Student answer (Band 8.5)
Dear Hotel Manager,
I am writing to express my appreciation for the excellent service provided by your hotel during the corporate event our company recently organized at your venue.
The event was held on 27th of October in the conference hall of your hotel. It was attended by approximately 120 employees and other business partners. it included a business presentation, a networking session, and a formal dinner. Overall, the event was well organized, and everything ran smoothly thanks to the professionalism of your staff.
What impressed me the most is the organization system. The conference hall was beautifully decorated with sufficient numbers of comfortable and chairs. The projectors and the sound system were excellently working, making the atmosphere more professional. In addition, the quality of food was also exceptional, and many of our guests commented positively on the variety and taste of the dishes served.
Although we were highly satisfied with all the services, there are few things that I believe need some improvements. Firstly, the parking space is quite limited, causing some guests to spend extra time searching for a parking space. Secondly, the registration process at the entrance could have been managed more efficiently to avoid long queues during the arrival of participants.
Thank you once again for the excellent services. I hope you consider these suggestions to improve your services further.
Yours faithfully,
Harmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, identified specific aspects of the hotel that were impressive, and offered constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a corporate event. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You have used cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Although', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of information is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. The structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 8.0
You have used a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a business context, such as 'professionalism', 'exceptional', and 'efficiently'. The language is natural and precise. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. While the vocabulary is functional and accurate, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions related to business hospitality could elevate your score further. Overall, your lexical range is sufficient to convey your message clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
Your grammar is generally strong, with a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and your control over tense and subject-verb agreement is consistent. There is a minor slip in the phrase 'comfortable and chairs' (likely a typo for 'comfortable chairs') and a small capitalization error ('it included' should be 'It included'). However, these are rare, non-systematic errors that do not affect the clarity of your writing. Your punctuation is accurate, and the overall grammatical control is high.
