Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
Hope you are doing well.
I am writing this email to thank you about the successful hosting of our event at your hotel along with some suggestions.
On 26th of July, our company had booked a space for celebrating out 5th anniversary. First of all, I would like to appreciate the hotel staff to provide us the best service and the arrangements were spectacular. Moreover, the best part was the food that you have arranged in a way to impress all the guests. Other than that, we have noticed that the staff was very helpful and professional.
On the other hand I would like to mention an area that needs to be improved is the music system. The music there was fabulous but the system was cracking sometimes that make this experience worse for the event attenders. It was getting stop and was making some weird sounds. I would suggest you to do changes in this for the better and special experience.
At last, I would like to thank all the workers of the hotel to make our day incredible. We would like to continue our future events with you with having improved services.
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly described the event (the 5th anniversary celebration on July 26th), highlighted positive aspects such as the staff service and food quality, and provided a constructive suggestion regarding the malfunctioning music system. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the event details and the suggestions is even more seamless, perhaps by explicitly stating how the technical issues impacted the overall atmosphere of the anniversary celebration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Other than that', and 'On the other hand' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. For instance, the transition between the positive feedback and the complaint could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure follows the standard conventions of a formal letter, making the progression of ideas easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'spectacular', 'professional', and 'incredible'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'do changes in this' (should be 'make improvements to this') and 'event attenders' (a more natural term would be 'attendees' or 'guests'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'thank you about' (should be 'thank you for'), 'appreciate the hotel staff to provide' (should be 'appreciate the hotel staff for providing'), and 'It was getting stop' (should be 'It kept stopping'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on verb patterns and prepositions will be beneficial.
