Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my views about the arrangements for an event that was held at your hotel.
The event was organized on 25th July in the evening for 4 hours. There were around 40 members from different companies' departments. Every head of the department had to give a presentation for an upcoming important project.
The environment was welcoming and pleasant. I particularly liked was the arrangement of furniture and the clarity of the audio-video equipment. The chairs and tables were arranged in a way which did not interrupt the audience who were sitting far away from the screen. Everyone understood the presentations well as the audio and video were clear.
I would appreciate it if catering could be improved. Some workers were waiting longer for dinner and snacks. So this would not happen in future with others.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Rajbeer Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the catering issue, explaining the specific nature of the delay or the impact on your guests would have provided a more comprehensive response. The letter is clear and fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively, though it remains quite brief in its elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'The event was,' 'The environment was,' and 'I would appreciate it if.' While the flow is logical, the use of linking words is somewhat repetitive and simple. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more varied transition signals to connect your sentences and ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows you to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'audio-video equipment' and 'arrangements.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances where word choice could be more precise. For example, 'Some workers were waiting longer' is slightly ambiguous; 'staff' or 'attendees' would be more appropriate in this context. Expanding your range of collocations and using more sophisticated vocabulary would enhance the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good control of basic sentence structures and your meaning is always clear. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'I particularly liked was the arrangement,' which should be 'What I particularly liked was the arrangement.' Additionally, the sentence 'So this would not happen in future with others' is slightly awkward and could be better phrased as 'I hope this issue can be addressed to prevent future occurrences.' You use a mix of simple and complex sentences, but increasing the variety of your grammatical structures would improve your score.
