Student answer (Band 7.5)
Subject- Regarding feedback about recent event organized at hotel.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am penning you this letter to appreciate your extraordinary services at our recent event by our company.
The annual conference for Bob& Boston was hosted at your hotel under your supervision. This was organized on July 25th in your main conference room. I am contented by your staff's cooperation towards managing our guests, keeping up with the special dietary needs, as instructed. The whole panel appreciated the flawless sound system, I think it was the best event we had till day.
Although, I would like to suggest a few things where I felt you might need your consideration. At the back stage the exhaust fans were broken due to which it did felt humid. Moreover, in near future you might consider getting more spotlight at the speakers desk. Except for these I could not see any other problems.
I hope my suggestions will be useful to your hotel.
Yours faithfully,
Joseph Brown.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the suggestions could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. For instance, explaining the impact of the humidity on the guests would have added depth. However, the response is fully on-topic and meets the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the positive feedback from the constructive suggestions. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'Except for these' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the overall structure supports the purpose of the letter well.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for a formal letter. Phrases like 'extraordinary services', 'contented by', and 'under your supervision' demonstrate a reasonable range. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'penning you this letter' (which is slightly informal/cliché) and 'till day' (should be 'to date'). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and maintains a professional tone throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'did felt humid' (should be 'felt humid') and 'in near future' (missing article 'the'), these errors do not impede communication. The punctuation is generally correct, and the sentence control is sufficient for the task. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of articles, as these are the primary areas where minor errors occur.
