Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my reviews on the recent event that held at your hotel on last Sunday. While the ceremony was amazing with the beautiful ambience and highly professional staff, there were some minor issues that we faced during this annual event of our company.
This was a memorable occasion of celebrating 25th anniversary of our company which took place at one of the banquet halls of your hotel. All the dignitaries from the management were present along with the whole staff of the company.
Honestly, everyone was appreciating the whole planning of this event including decoration, food and staff. All the members had a really great time during this event and the staff was very polite and professional.
Although, all the arrangements were thoroughly planned and beautifully designed but, we had an internet breakdown while broadcasting the final presentation. This was the main part of the program and the disruption caused many complaints.
Therefore, to avoid such unexpected breakdowns, I would like to suggest you to have more stable internet connection. I hope that you will consider this suggestion for the best of your business and act accordingly.
Yours Faithfully,
Gurpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event (the 25th anniversary celebration), expressed appreciation for the ambience and staff, and offered a constructive suggestion regarding the internet connectivity. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the context and the purpose of your communication. You have maintained a consistent focus throughout the letter, and the response is fully compliant with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering specific points, and a polite conclusion. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the different aspects of your feedback. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Although' and 'Therefore', the flow between sentences could be slightly more sophisticated. Occasionally, the transition between ideas feels a bit mechanical, but the overall progression of information is clear and easy to follow. The use of referencing is generally accurate, ensuring the reader can easily track the subject matter throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dignitaries', 'ambience', and 'disruption' appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'express my reviews' (better as 'provide feedback') and 'appreciating the whole planning' (better as 'impressed by the planning'). However, these errors do not impede communication. You successfully convey your message with sufficient precision. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied collocations and idiomatic expressions that sound more natural in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'event that held' (should be 'event that was held') and 'suggest you to have' (should be 'suggest that you have' or 'suggest having'). Additionally, the sentence 'Although, all the arrangements were thoroughly planned and beautifully designed but, we had...' contains a redundant 'but' after 'Although'. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally functional. Most of your sentences are error-free, showing a good level of control.
