Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to about the event the event held by our comapny at your hotel in last week.
The event was aimed to raised awareness about the business opportunities in our city, and we achieved tremendous success in it. We got very good sevice from your staff. The sound system and the decoration on the stage was so impressive. The seating area and tables were so neat and clean. The food served in your was so delicious. All of my team members were really enjoyed the event in your hotel.
The only issue we experienced in the hotel was the high temperature in the hotel building. I am sure that the air conditioner were working, but it still felt very hot. I think this the only area where your hotel needs improvement.
I am fully confident that we will host our next event in your building.
Yours Sincerely,
Sagar Malhi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the event was to 'raised awareness', you could have provided a bit more context about the nature of the company or the specific type of event to make the letter more engaging. The structure is clear and follows the required format, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your communication immediately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'The only issue' and 'I am fully confident' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical errors, such as the repetitive use of 'the event' and 'the hotel'. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and pronouns to avoid repetition and improve the overall flow of your sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of your message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing you to communicate your points clearly. You use some descriptive adjectives like 'tremendous', 'impressive', and 'delicious'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'writing this letter to about' (an extra 'to') and 'we achieved tremendous success in it' (which is slightly unnatural; 'the event was a tremendous success' would be better). You also have some spelling errors like 'comapny' and 'sevice'. Expanding your range of vocabulary and focusing on accurate collocations will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'aimed to raised' (should be 'aimed at raising' or 'aimed to raise'), 'the decoration... was' (subject-verb agreement: 'decorations... were'), and 'the air conditioner were working' (should be 'was working'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help elevate your score in this criterion.
