Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The purpose of the letter is clear from the start. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the event and the specific feedback regarding the washrooms could be more detailed to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly informal. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the positive feedback and the complaint is a bit abrupt. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the letter would benefit from a wider range of linking words and phrases to improve the flow between sentences and ideas. The overall structure is coherent, but the cohesion could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at using descriptive language, such as 'charming vibes' and 'attractive', but these are somewhat simplistic. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'smells like stink' (which is redundant) and 'colleuge' (spelling error). To reach a higher band, the writer should aim for more precise and varied vocabulary, avoiding repetitive phrasing and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'one of my colleuge retirement party' (should be 'colleague's'), 'I wants to bring' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'Some team members feels sick' (should be 'felt' for past tense consistency). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to verb tense consistency and subject-verb agreement would improve the accuracy.
