Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir / Madam

I hope this letter finds you well.

I am writing this letter to let you know that I have conducted the 30th anniversary of our company, on 28th July ,2026 at 6pm. Our event was held at your private hall D, where the ambience was great.

We also booked the dinner catering from your hotel which was mouth-watering for all of us. All of your staff was very polite, helpful and well trained.

Particularly, I would like to thank the management of your hotel for handling everything perfectly, especially, the sitting area was very cozy and comfortable for the guests.

Everything was really great except the music and drinks. The music system was not working well and sometimes it was too loud. Alot of guests complained about the mocktails as they were too sweet. I would advice you to improve these sections.

We all enjoyed very much, your team made this special day memorable for us.

Looking forward to host more events and parties at your hotel.

Thanks

Regards

Shubham

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, although the development of the suggestions could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. For instance, explaining the impact of the loud music on the guests would have added more depth. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the response is well-focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from the event details to positive feedback and then to constructive criticism. Paragraphing is used to separate these distinct ideas, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Particularly' and 'Everything was really great except', which help link your ideas. However, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'anniversary', 'ambience', 'mouth-watering', and 'memorable'. There are a few minor errors in word choice, such as 'conducted the 30th anniversary' (a more natural phrasing would be 'celebrated the 30th anniversary') and 'advice' (which is a noun; the verb form 'advise' should be used). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively throughout the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While most of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'All of your staff was' (should be 'were' as staff is plural) and 'Looking forward to host' (should be 'Looking forward to hosting'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there is an unnecessary comma in '28th July ,2026'. These errors do not impede communication, but more consistent control over subject-verb agreement and verb patterns would elevate your score.
