Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing it regarding the recent event my company held in your hotel Sunshine. The event was on 12th September 2026. It was about the new opening of our branches of our company in three different cities, Toronto, Ottava and Hamilton.
It was a really good experience with your hotel. Especially, your staff has really polite and welcoming behavior. They have made this event really successfull then we expected. Moreover, the hotel had really good food, according to our test.
However, I would like to give some changes that may improve the quality of service. Firstly, the lighting of meeting room was too bright. It was disturbing us while presentation. Secondly, the seating and table placement of meeting room was inproprate. The viewer had really hard time to sit for long time.
I hope you will love my compliment about the facilities

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the seating was 'inproprate', explaining why (e.g., lack of ergonomic support) would have provided more depth. The letter is clear and the purpose is well-defined, meeting the requirements of the task effectively despite the brevity of the explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for feedback, and a concluding sentence. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'However', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' to guide the reader through your points. While the paragraphing is functional, the transitions between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the jump from the event description to the positive feedback is a bit abrupt. Overall, the information is organised coherently, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some appropriate business-related terms such as 'branches' and 'facilities'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'successfull' (successful), 'test' instead of 'taste', and 'inproprate' (inappropriate). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common descriptive adjectives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing it regarding' (unnecessary 'it'), 'the lighting... was too bright' (should be 'the lighting in the meeting room'), and 'The viewer had really hard time' (missing article 'a'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and preposition errors throughout. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. Increasing your control over articles and sentence construction will help improve your score.
