Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my satisfaction with our software launch seminar at your hotel which was organized last Sunday in the Hall 208.
I would like to thank you and all of your staff for providing an excellent service throughout the period, including offering juice frequently to our guests and quick catering services. The particular service that impressed us a lot was the seating arrangement, unlike last time. All the chairs were properly labeled with our guest's names, which helped us to manage crowd a much easier.
However, attendees did face some difficulties in few services, especially in parking. Workers found it difficult to find a spot to park their cars and unfortunately, they lost their precious time in searching for parking space. This thing could have been managed effectively by checking our number of guests and number of parking spaces available.
I hope you consider this suggestion, which would be also helpful for other upcoming companies. But, we definitely noticed a significant improvement in the service from the manager and all the hotel staff members.
Yours sincerely,
Japel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the event (software launch seminar), highlighted the positive aspects (seating arrangements and staff service), and provided a constructive suggestion regarding parking. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of a business event. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your feedback. You have fulfilled all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which aids readability. You use transition words such as 'However' and 'although' to connect ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the cohesive devices are quite standard; incorporating a wider variety of linking phrases could further enhance the sophistication of the text. Overall, the information is easy to follow and the structure is sound.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal business context, such as 'satisfaction', 'organized', 'impressed', and 'effectively'. There are a few minor collocation issues, such as 'lost their precious time' (which sounds slightly unnatural; 'wasted valuable time' would be better) and 'manage crowd' (which should be 'manage the crowd'). Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and precisely. You successfully use topic-specific language related to event management, which is a strength.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as 'in few services' (should be 'in a few services') and 'this thing' (which is a bit informal; 'this issue' would be more precise). Additionally, 'manage crowd a much easier' contains a grammatical error; it should be 'manage the crowd much more easily'. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the majority of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound.
