Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
My self Mark Bing a junior manager from the WZK company. I am writing this letter in an appreciation of your hotel and staff members who helped us throughout our event which was held at your place last Sunday.
The event was about new recent advancements in the industries. However, I was not a member of an organizing team, I recommended your hotel to hold our seminar as I am aware about your commendable services and online reviews therefore management team agreed to host the event there.
I always praise your hotel as it has been awarded in five star rating. Additionally, during our meeting I have been greeted so respectfully by the hospitality staff also they have provided their best services to us and our chief guests. I am really grateful to them.
However, I would like to make a suggestion about the sound system. In our function, there was some continuous irritating sound originating from front speakers which disturbed some speeches. Although it was later fixed by technician, it was not that proper. I would still recommend to check on it.
Thank you for service.
Yours faithfully,
Mark

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You provided details about the event (a seminar on industry advancements), mentioned what you liked (the hospitality staff and service), and suggested an area for improvement (the sound system). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To improve, ensure that your introduction is more concise and grammatically accurate. For instance, 'My self Mark Bing' is informal and incorrect; a standard opening like 'I am writing to you regarding...' would be more professional. Overall, the content is relevant and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Although' to link your sentences. However, the transition between the first and second paragraph is slightly abrupt, and some referencing is a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'commendable services', 'hospitality staff', and 'advancements'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'in an appreciation of' (should be 'to express my appreciation for') and 'not that proper' (which is quite informal). While you successfully communicate your message, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal phrasing in a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'My self Mark Bing' (should be 'I am Mark Bing'), 'I was not a member of an organizing team' (should be 'the organizing team'), and 'it has been awarded in five star rating' (should be 'it has been awarded a five-star rating'). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
