Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing about the recent event at a hotel that I helped the company to organise.
The event occured a last week at the Taj hotel. It was the annual function which was organised to meet with newer members of the company. Also, in this event every got a chance to introduce themselves to their leaders.
The ambience of hotel was comfortable, and all the facilities were available there. Since this function has included the dinner, the food was delicious. Apart from this, staff was very nurturing, and did every possible endavours to feel every guest comfortable.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 113 words. While you have addressed all three bullet points—providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements—the content is significantly underdeveloped. For instance, the suggestion for improvement is entirely missing from your draft. To achieve a higher band, you must expand on your ideas, providing specific examples of what could be improved (e.g., audio-visual equipment or service speed) and ensuring the letter is of sufficient length to fully develop your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a basic logical structure with an introduction, body, and closing. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Also' and 'Apart from this', but the transitions between sentences feel somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the paragraphs are very short, which hinders the flow of the letter. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph contains a well-developed central idea.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some basic errors in word choice, such as 'nurturing' to describe staff, which is not the most natural collocation in a professional context; 'attentive' or 'accommodating' would be better. There are also spelling errors like 'occured' (occurred) and 'endavours' (endeavours). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to business events and hospitality, and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors that distract the reader. Examples include 'The event occured a last week' (remove 'a'), 'in this event every got a chance' (everyone), and 'did every possible endavours to feel every guest comfortable' (made every effort to make guests feel comfortable). These errors indicate a lack of control over basic sentence structures and verb forms. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy significantly.
