Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my appreciation for the excellent service by your hotel provided last weekend during our company’s physiotherapy awareness seminar. The event was organized to educate employers about the importance of physiotherapy in preventing injuries, managing chronic pain, improve mobility and posture correction. More than 80 participants including some healthcare professionals, employees and some local community members.
I was particularly impressed by the well-trained staff whom were polite, professional and always willing to assist if any required. In addition, I was more fascinated about specious, bright and well organized with equipment conference hall with Morden audiovisual facilities which helped to run our presentation smoothly. Moreover, the quality of refreshment during break time was excellent than our expectations.
Despite the success of our event, I would like to suggest few improvements. The air conditioning slightly inadequate during the afternoon session, making the hall little uncomfortable. Furthermore, arranging special registration desk for large events which would help to reduce queues and improve check-in process.
Thank you once again for your incredible service. We look forward to hosting future seminar in your hotel.
Yours faithfully,
Divya Mistry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the physiotherapy seminar, highlighted specific aspects of the hotel you enjoyed, and offered constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your communication. To reach a higher band, ensure that all sentences are complete; for example, your sentence 'More than 80 participants including...' lacks a main verb, which slightly affects the clarity of your information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the letter is easy to follow. To improve, ensure that your referencing is precise; for instance, 'whom were polite' should be 'who were polite', as 'who' is the correct relative pronoun for the subject of the clause.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'physiotherapy awareness seminar', 'professional', and 'audiovisual facilities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'specious' (likely meaning 'spacious'), 'Morden' (modern), and 'excellent than our expectations' (which should be 'better than our expectations'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and attention to collocations. Expanding your range of precise adjectives would further enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'service by your hotel provided' (should be 'service provided by your hotel'), 'whom were polite' (should be 'who were polite'), and 'if any required' (should be 'if any were required'). Additionally, some sentences are fragments, such as the one describing the participants. While you show control over basic structures, the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and relative pronoun usage will help improve your accuracy.
