Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my appreciation for the services provided during our recent corporate event, while also sharing some constructive feedback to help enhance your future guest experience. Our company hosted its annual regional conference at your hotel on the 14th October, which was attended by approximately eight delegates.
Overall, the event was a great success, and our team was highly impressed by several aspects of your establishment. The catering service was exceptional, offering a diverse and delicious menu that perfectly accommodated various dietary requirements. Additionally, the technical setup in the main conference hall was flawless, the audio-visual equipment worked reliably ,and your on site It staff was incredibly prompt and helpful during our morning preparation.
However, there were a couple of areas where we feel improvements could be made. Firstly, the check in process at the front desk was quite slow, causing an unnecessary delay and a bottleneck for our arriving attendees. Secondly, we noticed that the temperature regulation in the breakout rooms was inconsisten
Thank you once again for your hospitality and for contributing to the success of our conference. I hope this feedback is useful, and we look forward to considering your hotel foe our future corporate gatherings.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, highlighting positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, such as the specific mention of catering and technical support. However, the letter ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence regarding the temperature regulation, which slightly impacts the completeness of the final point. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed of the writer's intent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the positive feedback from the areas for improvement. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Secondly' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, the abrupt ending due to the incomplete sentence at the end of the third paragraph disrupts the cohesion slightly. Overall, the information is presented in a logical progression that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is appropriate for a professional context, using terms like 'corporate event', 'dietary requirements', and 'bottleneck'. There is a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the message with precision. There are minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as 'on site It staff' (should be 'on-site IT staff') and 'foe' (a typo for 'for'). These minor errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching the higher bands. The range is adequate for the task requirements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a good control of complex sentence structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('causing an unnecessary delay') and relative clauses. There are some punctuation errors, particularly missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'exceptional, offering', 'Additionally, the'). The most significant issue is the incomplete sentence at the end of the third paragraph ('inconsisten'), which is a grammatical failure. However, the majority of the sentences are error-free, and the grammatical control is generally strong enough to support clear communication throughout the rest of the letter.
