Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to share my experience with you about the event that I organized at your hotel at last week.

my name is Vishva Shah, and I booked your hotel for an important event , called a farewell party on 29th July. moreover, the party included approximately sixty employees, celebrating a farewell event for our product manager, who is going to leave the company . I would love to share that I liked the teste of food and service provided by your staffs the most. in addition, it can be another option for me to choose your hotel for this event. Although some areas are confusing if we visit that place for the first time. to solve this issue, you should give a name to each turn to make it easy to find proper location. furthermore, the proper management of air-conditioning could bring charm into the event as it was not functioning properly.

I hope you will consider my suggestion and try to improve it . thank you for listening my concerns and feedback.

see you soon.

yours faithfully,

Vishva

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing could be more professional. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat brief. For example, the suggestion regarding the air-conditioning is clear, but could have been expanded to explain how it impacted the event. Overall, the response covers the requirements of the task effectively, though it lacks the depth of development required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical sections, moving from the introduction to the positive feedback and then to the suggestions. However, the paragraphing is weak; the entire body of the letter is presented as one block, which hinders readability. While some cohesive devices like 'moreover', 'in addition', and 'furthermore' are used, they are sometimes placed awkwardly or used to connect ideas that would be better served by separate sentences or paragraphs. The flow is generally understandable, but the lack of clear paragraph breaks makes the structure feel somewhat mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their message clearly. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'teste of food' (taste) and 'staffs' (staff is uncountable). The phrasing 'bring charm into the event' is slightly unnatural in this context. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary, the control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more precise collocations and ensure that common nouns and adjectives are used correctly in a professional context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., spaces before commas), capitalization errors ('my name', 'i'), and tense inconsistencies ('at last week'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage also show occasional lapses. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of control over complex structures. Improving punctuation and proofreading for basic grammatical slips would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
