Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to providing suggestion and area of improvement about the firm event that organized in your hotel.
To commence with, last week their was a conference held in your hotel. The event was about the annual party of the firm. This event started at evening and ended until the mid-night. The event included various games, dance as well as music with fun.
Moreover, there are ample of things that mostly liked by the all the members of the firm. The music system and the decoration and the lighting was the heart of the party. Moreover the layout and all the arrangements was excellent.
In opposite to the best things I would also like to suggest the few things in which your hotel need to improvement. The main focus should be given to the catering as the food was not upto the mark as per our expectation. I am sure that next time it would be more better than before.
Hope to see you next time in same event.
Your Faithfully,
Gautam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening is slightly informal. The ideas are relevant, but they could be developed further to reach a higher band. For instance, instead of simply stating the event included 'games, dance as well as music', you could have briefly described the nature of the conference or the specific type of event to provide more context. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the development of ideas remains somewhat superficial.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In opposite to', which assist in linking ideas. However, some of these transitions are used slightly unnaturally or incorrectly (e.g., 'In opposite to' should be 'In contrast to' or 'Contrary to'). Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the all the members', where the article usage is redundant. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help your writing flow more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'conference', 'catering', and 'arrangements'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'the firm event that organized' (should be 'that was organized') and 'more better' (a double comparative error). To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more precise collocations and avoid repetitive or simplistic phrasing. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives would also enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the decoration and the lighting was' should be 'were'), incorrect verb forms ('to providing' should be 'to provide'), and article misuse ('the all the members'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
