Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my feedback about your hotel where I visited recently with my colleagues.
We booked your hotel on 20th July, 2026 for our 25th ceremony of company. The event was scheduled at 2.p.m. This event was attended by more than 150 people.
Although the event was wonderful, what I like most about your hotel was exceptional hospitality, worker were extremely attentive, kind and friendly. Additionally, background music and delicious food made the event more entertaining and enjoyable for all attendees.
Despite all the grateful amenities, I would like to suggest some improvements, especially regarding parking. Since there was limited parking space, some extra space for parking should be added particularly during peak hours, which would enhance the experience of future customers.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Yours faithfully,
Sukhpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat brief. For example, the event details are limited to the date and attendance count, and the suggestions for improvement could be more elaborated to fully develop the response. To improve, ensure you expand on each point with more descriptive language and sufficient detail to meet the length requirement, which will allow for a more comprehensive and professional tone suitable for a formal letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a formal closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Additionally', and 'Despite' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother and that you use a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect your ideas more naturally. The overall structure is clear and easy to follow, which is a strength.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for a formal letter, such as 'exceptional hospitality', 'attendees', and 'amenities'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'grateful amenities' (which is incorrect in this context) and 'worker were' (should be 'the staff was'). The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to event management would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'where I visited recently' (should be 'which I visited'), 'worker were' (subject-verb agreement error), and '2.p.m.' (incorrect punctuation). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and punctuation. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, while ensuring they are error-free, will help demonstrate a higher level of grammatical control.
