Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear hotel manager,
I hope you are doing great!
I am writing this letter to give my review on my recent visit to your hotel. I am one of the member of the company who had organized a birthday party dinner at your hotel. This event was organized by Mr. Dhillon at your hotel for his daughter 18th birthday. I am very satisfied with your hotel team as they provide assistance when ever we need. They were very friendly as well as helpful. The entrance of your hotel have mesmerizing view of flowers and little fountain.
However, their one place which requires your immediate attention. It is women’s washroom lighting and floor cleaniness. Their were lights which was not working and some was not very effective. Moreover, the floor of washroom was properly clean and it was smelly.
I hope you find this review helpful and informative. Also, take some measures to resolve this cause.
On behalf of all my colleagues, thanks for your support.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the event was a birthday party, providing more specific details about the service or the catering would have strengthened the response. Additionally, the suggestion for improvement is clear, but the language used to express these concerns is slightly repetitive. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Moreover' to transition between ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some minor errors in sentence structure occasionally disrupt the natural progression of your argument. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme to enhance the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'mesmerizing' and 'informative'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'one of the member' (should be 'members') and 'properly clean' (which contradicts your intended meaning of 'not properly clean'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific collocations related to hospitality and feedback would help you reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and articles, such as 'Their were lights which was not working' (should be 'There were lights that were not working') and 'the floor of washroom' (missing 'the'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and pluralization errors, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with greater accuracy.
