Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I would like to take this moment to appreciate the hospitatlity provided by your staff at our company's biggest event for the charity donations, which was held at your hotel on August 11.
Many important people were present at the event, and the service provided was outstanding, for example the lights and decoration were on spot. Most of the attendees, really appreciate the efforts which were involve in the hosting of the event. Another thing which I wanted to point out is, that you consider all our food allergy request and accomodate accordingly.
However, there is a room of improvement. The music system and microphones are very outdated, so my event achnor was really upset as the voice wasn't audible in the back of the room. I hope you address the mic issue for your future events
Also, please pass along my graitude to your team and we hope to host many more events at your prestigious venue.
Regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, covering the charity event, the staff's hospitality, and the specific technical issues with the audio equipment. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the 'details' of the event to provide more context, such as the number of attendees or the specific nature of the charity, which would further develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Another thing which I wanted to point out' and 'However', to link your ideas. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother. For instance, the sentence 'Most of the attendees, really appreciate the efforts which were involve in the hosting of the event' could be better connected to the previous sentence using a relative pronoun or a conjunction.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'prestigious', and 'gratitude' appropriately. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'hospitatlity' and 'achnor' (anchor), and minor word choice issues, such as 'on spot' instead of 'on point' or 'spot on'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for spelling and ensuring collocations are natural will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'efforts which were involve' (should be 'involved') and 'you consider all our food allergy request' (should be 'requests'). Additionally, punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, such as the unnecessary comma after 'point out is'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly hinder the reader's understanding. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency, particularly when describing past events versus current requests.
