Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation to your team for making the event successful at your hotel which was held on 7th August.
First of all, our organisation was looking for the best place to celebrate employee appreciation day and after various inquires I found MG road, Taj hotel, Bangalore was the exact match and booked Rose Hall to occupy approximately 250 employees on 7th August, without the second opinion. Secondly, specially I would like to highlight your team efforts to decorate the hall with colourful balloons which was matching company logo colour, this was highly admired by client who were also part of the event. Moreover, food menu also had variety for one to choose and enjoy their meal.
Finally, there were only two people at the reception and this makes area crowed during the check-in. Hence, hiring few more might reduce this problem.
Hope you will consider my suggestion and expecting for the changes in the next visit.
Yours faithfully,
Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the decoration and food, providing a specific example of a dish or a particular moment during the event would have added more depth. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the structure follows the conventions of a formal request/feedback letter effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. While these are effective, the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used correctly to separate the different topics, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'sincere appreciation', 'highlight', and 'admired'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'without the second opinion' (which should be 'without a second thought') and 'crowed' (which should be 'crowded'). Additionally, 'client who were' should be 'clients who were'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate that your control over more sophisticated vocabulary is still developing. Using more precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'making the event successful at your hotel which was held' (which is slightly awkward) and 'hiring few more' (should be 'hiring a few more'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing articles and minor errors in verb agreement. Despite these slips, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as varying your sentence structure further.
