Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter in regards to the event which my company organized at your hotel last week.
The event took place on 29th august, we booked Trent as our main floor for the event. The event was well organized by your team. I really liked the decoration which was done by your team on that floor. Not only Colour Coordination was on point but also sitting arrangement was great.
Although everything marked up to our expectations, but still there were some things which could had been better. For instance, the stewards on duty that day was not generous to any of our clients. However, few of them greeted our team well. Despite of this, another thing which could had been better was food options, there was just two food options for vegetarians in the whole menu which was pretty much disappointing for us.
I hope that you will take this as a positive feedback and will make the required changes.
Yours faithfully,
Tanveer Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the suggestions could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. For instance, explaining why the lack of vegetarian options was problematic for your guests would have added more depth. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the positive feedback from the areas for improvement. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'For instance', 'However', and 'Despite of this' are used to link ideas. However, there is a slight misuse of 'Despite of this' (which should be 'Despite this' or 'In spite of this'). While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect the sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'colour coordination', 'expectations', and 'disappointing'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'marked up to our expectations' (should be 'met our expectations') and 'stewards... was not generous' (generous is not the ideal adjective here; 'accommodating' or 'attentive' would be better). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Expanding your repertoire of formal business-related collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'could had been better' (should be 'could have been better'), 'stewards... was' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'there was just two food options' (should be 'there were'). Additionally, '29th august' requires capitalization. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of modal perfect structures will help improve your accuracy.
