Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter as an employee on behalf of my company which organized an event in your hotel and I was one of the organizers involved in this event. It was an official success party for announcing a big project in collaboration with another multinational company which turned out to be a blockbuster and a way of celebrating the hard work and efforts of all the employees who made it possible.
I liked all the arrangements done by your hotel according to the details provided by our company whether it was decorations, lighting, cleanliness, catering services, seating arrangements, audio-video monitoring podium displays on the stage for speech sessions, etc. Everything was on point and everyone enjoyed a lot without any scope of complaints.
I would only like to bring one area of notice that would have been better if there were more waiters to serve people and they did not have wait in long queues which in turn wasted a lot of food as it would have been distributed among the poor and needy.
Hope to get a prompt and an affirmative response from your side too.
Yours sincerely,
Iqra !

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The purpose of the event is clearly stated, and the feedback regarding the service is constructive. The response is well-developed and maintains a consistent focus throughout, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. Cohesive devices such as 'whether it was', 'in turn', and 'as' are used effectively to link ideas. The progression of information is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. The overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. Phrases like 'official success party', 'multinational company', and 'audio-video monitoring' demonstrate a good range of vocabulary. There are some minor stylistic choices that could be improved, such as 'blockbuster' which is slightly informal for this context, and 'bring one area of notice' which is a slightly unnatural collocation. However, the meaning is always clear, and the range is adequate to convey the intended message effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the majority of sentences are error-free, there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'they did not have wait' (missing 'to') and the slightly awkward phrasing in the final sentence of the third paragraph. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient to maintain interest. These minor errors do not impede communication, and the overall control of grammar is good.
