Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent service your hotel provided during our company annual sales conference, which took place on 15 July 2026.
Regarding the event, we hosted more then 100 delegates globally for this event, which also includes presentation and speeches followed by lunch, I am pleased to report that the event was a resounding success, largely due to the professionalism and support of your staff.
I would like to highlight several aspects of your hotel which I particularly admired. First and foremost, you have provided us a spacious hall which facilitated all members with proper comfortable seating arrangements. Moreover, I also appriciated regarding the modern audio visual system your hotel has. which significantly helped every staff engagement throughout presentation time, making the communication more effective.
However, I would like to offer few constructive improvement suggestion for future events. Firstly, the lunch service was somewhat delayed, which disrupted our schedule. Ensuring that meals are served promptly would greatly enhance the experience. Secondly, the Wi-Fi connection in the conference room was inconsistent, causing minor interruptions during our online presentations. Upgrading the internet stability would be highly beneficial for corporate events.
Thankyou

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the suggestions could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is fully informed about the context of the event and the feedback provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the positive feedback from the constructive suggestions. Cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for a formal business letter, using terms like 'sincere appreciation', 'resounding success', and 'constructive improvement'. However, there are some minor errors, such as 'appriciated' (spelling) and 'regarding' used incorrectly in the phrase 'I also appriciated regarding the modern audio visual system'. Additionally, 'more then' should be 'more than'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, these inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Expanding the use of more precise collocations would enhance the professional tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'which also includes' (tense inconsistency), 'you have provided us a spacious hall' (missing preposition 'with'), and 'offer few constructive improvement suggestion' (missing article 'a' and pluralization). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with sentence fragments, such as 'which significantly helped every staff engagement throughout presentation time, making the communication more effective.' Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the errors do not impede communication.
