Student answer (Band 5.5)
dear sir/madam,
i am writing you this letter in regards to the event that we have recently organized in your hotel. it was a grand 5th birthday party of one of our client. the event went really well. your hotel is really great, as it was really spacious. the most thing i liked about your hotel was the decoration and vibe. its been perfectly designed for any type of event whether its a birthday party, a marriage or some kind of get together. the food was also very nice. i have never tried this kind of food anywhere in my life before. it was outstanding. here i want to give you one suggestion for the area of approvement. the washrooms of your hotel was not that much clean as it should be according to the reputation of the hotel. i know its not your mistake that when we have that much gathering its normal to have it dirty but i would like to suggest you to add up more cleaning staff and who can clean it more often. that was my honest opinion
thanks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the event was a '5th birthday party', providing more specific details about the nature of the event or the number of guests would have strengthened the response. Similarly, the suggestion regarding the washrooms is clear, but could be expanded with more professional phrasing. Overall, the task is fully addressed, but the depth of information provided is basic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the positive feedback and finally the suggestion for improvement. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and mechanical. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures and lack a variety of linking words or transition phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is also absent; the entire letter is written as one block of text. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the different sections of your letter and incorporate a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite simple and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'really' (e.g., 'really great', 'really spacious', 'really well'), which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'area of approvement' instead of 'area for improvement' and 'the most thing' instead of 'the thing I liked most'. While your meaning is always clear, you need to incorporate a broader range of descriptive adjectives and more precise collocations to move into a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a basic control of grammar, but the range of structures is limited. Most of your sentences are simple or compound, with very few complex structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the washrooms... was not that much clean' (subject-verb agreement and adjective usage) and 'its been perfectly designed' (missing apostrophe). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the lack of capitalization for 'I' and the start of sentences. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
