Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I writing this letter to appreciate your efforts for making our event successful. Although everything was good but there is some room for improvement in some areas.
First and foremost, we the Taj group had our Silver jubilee at your hotel and thank you for providing us great services and planning with in the short period of time.
Moreover, Food service was great and the major highlight of the your staff which was so professional and they handled all the responsibilities professionally and smoothly. As an organizer I did not had to take any stress for the service on your end.
Although, the event was completed without any problem but i feel like there are some points which i would like you to improve on your end for our future programs. First of all there was not enough parking space for everyone and during day time it was a headache for the guests to look for the parking space outside. Last but not least, the sound system needs to be upgraded. I hope to hear from you with a positive response soon.
Best Regards,
Kunal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the 'Silver jubilee', you could have provided more specific details about the event's nature or the number of guests to better illustrate the context. The suggestions for improvement are relevant, but they could be expanded slightly to show how they impacted the event's overall success. Overall, the response covers all requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'Last but not least' to guide the reader. However, the paragraphing is a bit inconsistent, and some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The flow between sentences is generally smooth, but there are instances where the connection between ideas could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition from the positive feedback to the areas for improvement is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional', 'responsibilities', and 'upgraded'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take any stress' (should be 'feel any stress' or 'worry about') and 'with in the short period of time' (should be 'within a short period of time'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise and varied vocabulary to describe your experiences and suggestions, moving beyond common, everyday language to more sophisticated expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I writing this letter' (should be 'I am writing'), 'did not had to take' (should be 'did not have to take'), and 'during day time' (should be 'during the daytime'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they are error-free will help improve your score in this criterion.
