Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Cathrine; event manager of ABC group ltd. Last week, we hosted our 25th annual celebration at your hotel and I must appreciate the management from your staff.
Firstly, it was a silver jubilee celebration for our company as well as conducting the appreciation ceremony for staff. The CEO and heads of the company were there to give speech; the stage was designed up to our expectation and sound was audible till last seat. Additionally, the seats were arranged accordingly that the stage was visible from each designated spot. Moreover, I really appreciate the complimentary refreshments offered, our guests were pleased by this gesture.
However, I would like to mention few things which needs your attention. The parking was a bit confusing that day. The event guests needed to park their vehicles at the end because the front was packed by the visitors, though, I requested some spots in advance. Lastly, the security check was very inconvenient to the staffs having entry passes.
I would really appreciate if you can have a look to certain areas. All in all our experience was marvelous.
Yours faithfully,
Cathrine

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, such as it being a 25th annual celebration, mentioned specific positive aspects like the stage design and refreshments, and highlighted areas for improvement regarding parking and security. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the context and the purpose of your communication. The response is fully focused on the task requirements throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a concluding sentence. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However' to transition between ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the positive feedback from the constructive criticism. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is generally clear. While some transitions are standard, they serve the purpose of the letter well and ensure the message is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message with precision. Phrases like 'silver jubilee celebration', 'complimentary refreshments', and 'inconvenient' are used correctly. There are a few minor issues with word choice, such as 'appreciate the management from your staff' (which is slightly unnatural; 'appreciate the service provided by your staff' would be better) and 'staffs' (which is an uncountable noun). However, these errors do not impede communication, and you successfully use a variety of business-appropriate terminology throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the stage was designed up to our expectation' (should be 'expectations') and 'few things which needs' (should be 'need'). Additionally, the sentence 'The event guests needed to park their vehicles at the end because the front was packed by the visitors, though, I requested some spots in advance' is slightly clunky in its punctuation. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your meaning is always clear to the reader.
