Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to provide you with feedback regarding the successful event that our company organized at your hotel recently.
Last week, on Wednesday, an event was held at the banquet hall of your hotel. Approximately 200 members attended this program from various organizations. Everyone was satisfied with the preparations made by all the staff.
The decoration at the entry was quite attractive. Especially, the fragrance and freshness of the flowers were impressive. Also, the carpet used to cover the whole floor was giving a premium vibe. In addition, the buffet had several food items that were quite delicious, including non-vegetarian items and desserts.
Although everything was satisfactory, some things made me feel disappointed me, that needs to be improved for future reference and to enhance the experience of guests. Some food items were not warm. Even the servers did not pay attention when they were asked to provide the expected service.
I hope you will resolve this issue to improve the future experience. An apology from your side would be appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Javed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, covering the event size, the decor, and the specific service issues encountered. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific details about the event, such as the name of the company or the specific nature of the meeting, to make the letter feel more authentic and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Although,' and 'Also' to link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the event overview to the positive feedback, then to the constructive criticism, and finally to the closing. The flow is natural and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'premium vibe,' 'constructive feedback,' and 'future reference' are used appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'disappointed me, that needs to be improved,' which is slightly repetitive and grammatically awkward. However, the vocabulary is generally precise enough for the task. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific terminology related to event management to enhance the professional tone of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and error-free, which ensures that your meaning is never in doubt. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as the redundant 'disappointed me, that needs to be improved' and the slightly awkward phrasing 'servers did not pay attention when they were asked to provide the expected service.' Despite these minor issues, your control over grammar and punctuation is good, and the errors do not impede communication at all.
