Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are so good. I recently joined your manager's promotion party, which i assisted to organize this event. i really enjoyed a lot over there, even i met many my workmates over there.

There are numerous cuisine, which i had very delicious. All were very nice even all staff members were very kind because they welcomed us with warm-heart. Especially, when we entered on the main gate of the hotel, they served us cold-drink, which helped me to feel calm and relax.

One thing, i noted over there, we had problem in parking area. At that time, there were more cars to park, due to congested place, we could not park our cars properly, half of cars, we had to park outside the hotel, a the edge of the road, it could be mishappening with cars. So, i suggest that they should increase the parking space so that people can park their vehicles without difficulties.

Thanks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, although it leans slightly informal. The ideas are relevant and clearly stated, such as the specific issue with the parking area. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more clearly in the opening and that the development of ideas is more sophisticated. For example, instead of just saying you enjoyed the event, you could briefly describe the nature of the event to provide more context.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For instance, you use 'over there' multiple times, which does not effectively link ideas. Transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, such as the jump between the welcome drink and the parking issue. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') to create a smoother flow between your ideas and to better connect the different sections of your letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some descriptive language like 'congested' and 'warm-heart', though 'warm-heart' is not the standard collocation. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'mishappening' instead of 'accident' or 'mishap'. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary related to hospitality and event management. Avoid repeating simple phrases like 'very nice' or 'very kind' and try to incorporate more specific adjectives to enhance your descriptions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I hope you are so good' (incorrect idiom), 'which i assisted to organize' (incorrect verb pattern), and 'there were more cars to park' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of lowercase 'i' and comma splices. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and consistent capitalization to improve your accuracy.
