Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir
I am considering this letter to appreciate your efforts for the top notch arrangements in a business event held last weekend at your hotel.
Initially, I was hesitant for choosing your hotel for such big event but to my surprise the event turn out to be successful. The entrepreneur webinar is a big event that usually happens once in a year and employees from all other companies were also invited. It was like a icing on cake when the employees from far away cities got accommodation at your hotel. Firstly, the staff was very cooperative and friendly and all crew members went beyond their limit to add comfort in our stay.
Apart from that, the hall was very spacious for big event gathering and equipped with proper sound system, big screen for presentation and has easy access to all other amenities. The food was not only scrumptious but also served warm throughout the event. However, there was a bit of nuisance coming from the outside and the powercut during the event caused a bit of disturbance. If the management can work on these things, it eventually open doors to more big events at your place.
Looking forward for more events at the hotel.
Yours faithfully
Richard.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the event, such as the entrepreneur webinar, mentioned positive aspects like the staff and facilities, and suggested improvements regarding noise and power issues. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing salutations are fully consistent with the prompt's instructions (e.g., 'Dear Sir / Madam' was requested, but you used 'Dear Sir').
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Apart from that', and 'However' to guide the reader through your points. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. While the structure is sound, some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the flow further. For instance, the connection between the event details and the staff feedback could be tightened. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to a coherent response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'top notch arrangements', 'scrumptious', and 'beyond their limit'. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'I am considering this letter' (instead of 'writing') and 'nuisance coming from the outside' (which is slightly unnatural). However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic or professional collocations to elevate the tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'hesitant for choosing' (should be 'hesitant about choosing'), 'event turn out' (should be 'turned out'), and 'it eventually open doors' (should be 'it would eventually open doors'). Additionally, there are some minor punctuation and article usage issues. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help you achieve a higher band score in this criterion.
