Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to appreciate the efforts your team has invested in making success of our company's business meeting. My boss really liked the conference room along with the refreshment area. every person who attended the meeting were immensely impressed by the quality of service your hotel has provided.
As the event was organized in the month of may, the facilities to provide comfort and food was beyond expectation. The employees who stayed at your hotel were appreciating the room condition, large room with extended balcony with a sea view. It felt like an excursion to few of them.
Unfortunately, the only downside we noticed was the audio-visual facility. As I mentioned it earlier, the audio- visual should work fine at the time of conference, however, it did not go well at that time. Apart from that everything was smooth and perfect.
Looking forward to contact you for more conference meetings and stays.
Yours sincerely,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is quite brief, and the suggestion for improvement regarding the audio-visual equipment lacks specific detail on how it failed or what the impact was. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more descriptive language and specific examples to fully develop the narrative.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Apart from that' and 'As the event was organized', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of information is clear. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid to avoid a slightly repetitive structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'immensely impressed', 'beyond expectation', and 'downside'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'making success of our company's business meeting' (should be 'making our company's business meeting a success') and 'looking forward to contact you' (should be 'looking forward to contacting you'). The vocabulary is functional and conveys your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Focus on learning common collocations to sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The employees who stayed at your hotel were appreciating the room condition'. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'every person who attended the meeting were' should be 'was', and 'the month of may' requires a capital letter. Additionally, 'the audio-visual should work fine' is slightly unnatural; 'should have worked' would be more accurate. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency.
