Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to share my positive review and suggestions for some areas which needs to be improved to attract more customers.
To begin with, we organized our Manager's birthday party last weekend at your Royal Hotel. The experience was so wonderful. The event took place in your community hall, it was quite huge to accommodate more than 100 people.
Moreover, one thing which impressed me the most was the food. We got served rich foods such as Shahi Paneer, Biryani, Chicken Tikka and Gulab-jamun as dessert. All the cuisines were mouth-watering.
However, the parking area was not available for all the guests. As, some of our colleagues had to park the cars on the street far away to the community hall.
I sincerely appreciate your support in this matter. I hope you will take appropriate action to build more parking spots. Overall, that was once in a blue moon experience for me.
Yours faithfully,
Mike Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the event (a manager's birthday party), mentioned positive aspects (the hall size and the food), and suggested a clear area for improvement (parking). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could explain how the parking issue specifically impacted your guests' experience or suggest a specific solution beyond just building more spots. Overall, the task is fully covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' to link your ideas. While these are effective, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between sentences is smoother. For example, the sentence 'As, some of our colleagues...' is a fragment and disrupts the flow of the paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accommodate', 'impressed', and 'cuisines'. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'once in a blue moon experience', which is an idiom that does not quite fit the context of a hotel review. Additionally, 'rich foods' is slightly imprecise. You have enough vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly, but incorporating more precise, topic-specific collocations related to hospitality and event management would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'areas which needs to be improved' should be 'areas which need to be improved' (subject-verb agreement). The sentence 'As, some of our colleagues had to park...' is grammatically incorrect because it starts with a dependent clause that is punctuated as a full sentence. There are also minor preposition errors, such as 'far away to the community hall' instead of 'from'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries will improve your score.
