Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I would like to suggest you about the event management which were held at your hotel. Last week, you organized one of our company annual function. Every thing went very smoothly from the start till end.

The event is mainly related to the company performance. In the event, speeches been given by senior management and from few employees. Furthermore, prize distribution was also be the part of the event.

Moreover, our experience went very well. Everything properly hit at spot to make a successful event. Overall, ambience for the event is fabulous. Although, event start bit late but still it nicely managed. The equipment's like mic and speaker functioned very well.

Therefore, there are some loopholes still where things need to be improved. The food quality is bit low and food is not that warm, other thing the chairs are not that comfortable. If these small issues been sorted well, than this place will be the perfect to organize the event.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to hear from you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention the event was related to 'company performance', adding a bit more specific context would have made the letter more professional. The suggestions for improvement are clear, but could be more detailed to better reflect a business context. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes slightly mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the transition between the event description and the positive feedback. Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of your request.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'ambience', 'fabulous', and 'loopholes'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'properly hit at spot' and 'suggest you about', which are not natural English expressions. Some phrasing is also slightly informal or imprecise, such as 'things need to be improved' or 'not that warm'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to focus on more precise collocations and formal business terminology to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('event management which were held', 'speeches been given', 'prize distribution was also be the part') and punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary apostrophe in 'equipment's'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. To improve, focus on mastering passive voice constructions and ensuring consistent verb tense usage, as these are areas where you currently struggle.
