Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to express my apprecation the the execllent service provided by your hotel during a recent event organised by my company I would also like to provide some feedback regarding my overall experience
To begin with, approximately 50 employes attented the event. The event was all about our sucessfull prog projects.
what impressed me most was the food from your hotel. It was relly really good. Another positive aspect was your staff were very helpfull and professional.
However, I believe there are a few areas that could be improved. firsty, you need to add more options in your food as well as, we need to put some extra things for entertainment, so people can enjoy their party.
Overall, i was very satisfied with the service provided by your hotel and i hope you will consider my suggestions.
your faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. The development of ideas is somewhat thin; for instance, the suggestion for 'extra things for entertainment' is vague and lacks specific detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more descriptive language and ensure the letter meets the required length to fully develop the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic linking words like 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Overall' to signal transitions between ideas. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with sentence boundary punctuation, such as missing full stops between independent clauses (e.g., '...my company I would also...'). Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring correct punctuation between sentences would enhance the flow and clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks variety. You use simple descriptors like 'really really good' and 'helpfull', which are informal and limited. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'apprecation', 'execllent', 'sucessfull', and 'firsty', which distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more precise adjectives and ensuring accurate spelling of common words. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated collocations related to business events would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter relies mostly on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes. For example, 'as well as, we need to put' is syntactically awkward. There are also frequent errors in basic grammar, such as 'employes attented' and 'prog projects'. The lack of proper punctuation between sentences makes the text difficult to read in places. You need to focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and spelling errors.
