Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Mamta Negi, I recently organized an event at your hotel. The event went smooth with your hotel staff, in our event we had some stage shows and and games then we had food for around 100 people included drinks and main course.
I am amazed with your staff help, decoration and food. We got lots of compliment for food from our guest. Especially your starters was fresh and lite. Everything was great.
I have some suggestion to improve your hotel:- First I would like to suggest you to not have more than 80 people at one time that was too crowdy and add some more vegetarian dishes so everyone can enjoy. According to me if you can also add some more sitting.
Thank you for your amazing hosting, and i will be hopping next event at your hotel with some improvement.
Thank you
Mamta Negi Dhyani

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the event is quite brief, and the suggestions for improvement could be more clearly articulated to show a professional perspective. While the task requirements are met, the response lacks the depth and detail expected for a higher band score. Expanding on the specific nature of the 'stage shows' or providing more context for the suggestions would have strengthened the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the transition between the event details and the positive feedback is abrupt. There is a reliance on simple connectors like 'and' or 'then'. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', 'Consequently') to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'went smooth' (should be 'went smoothly') and 'too crowdy' (should be 'too crowded') indicate issues with word formation and collocation. While you successfully convey your meaning, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday words. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to event management, such as 'accommodate', 'ambiance', 'catering', or 'logistics', and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are several grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I am Mamta Negi, I recently organized' (a comma splice), 'the event went smooth' (adverb needed), 'your starters was fresh' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'i will be hopping' (spelling/word choice error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct adverb usage, and punctuation. Incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, would also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
