Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to provide you feedback regarding the recent event i organized at Kings Hotel, for our company The Woodstock LTD.

The started around 10 am in the morning and we were there until 2 pm, it was the tenth anniversary of our company. It was big celebration for around sixty people, and the event was a great success.

I would really say the customer services provided by the hotel was genuinely beyond the words. Everything was well organized and ready before the arrival of the guests. The front desk staff was really helpful to in approving the last-minute request that was made for the projector, all guests had great experience.

But the few things i would like to mention that could be improved to enhance the guest experience. There should be a landline provided in the event rooms as well it will save a lot of the time of the guest, as ringing through the personal phone take a long procedure to connect to write person and then to repeat all the information, but a phone provided by hotel offers clear instructions to connect to the required person.

It was a great experience overall; we would look forward to book for upcoming events as well.

Yours faithfully,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided details about the event, highlighted the positive aspects of the hotel service, and offered a constructive suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that the details provided are slightly more descriptive; for instance, you could specify the type of event or the nature of the company to add more depth. Overall, the response is clear, relevant, and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure, with clear paragraphing that separates the introduction, the positive feedback, the suggestions, and the closing. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'But' and 'as', to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect sentences more fluidly. For example, the transition between the event details and the positive feedback is a bit abrupt. Improving the use of cohesive devices would help the letter read more naturally and professionally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'anniversary', 'organized', and 'beyond the words'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise or sophisticated collocations and descriptive adjectives. For example, instead of 'big celebration', you could use 'significant milestone' or 'grand event'. There are no major spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication, but expanding your range of vocabulary would elevate the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'The started around 10 am' (missing subject), 'helpful to in approving' (incorrect preposition usage), and 'the few things i would like to mention' (missing 'are'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues and some run-on sentences. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for small omissions would significantly improve your score.
