Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

how are you doing, I am reaching from AK on wheels logistics, we recently held an event at hotel, the event was company early dinner, to address the success, shortcomings and future plans for the company. I have been a part of this company from the very start and attended many yearly parties. However, this one was very impressive, as usual we had left very thing to the hotel management to handle, and you managed to surprise me with all the activities and arrangements you and your stuff and prepared such as, music selection, food variety, decorations and service quality.

Meanwhile, their are few things i think could have be done better, the guest should be allowed to all facilities of the hotel during event, or two different venues could provided and changed in half of the event to change the mood.

All in all it was a great experience

Regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestions for improvement are quite brief and lack detail, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening is slightly informal. To improve, you should expand on your ideas, perhaps by explaining why the suggested changes would have improved the guest experience or by providing more specific examples of the 'shortcomings' mentioned in the introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the positive feedback and the suggestions is abrupt. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences feel disjointed. To improve, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that your paragraphing is consistent and that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'stuff' instead of 'staff' and 'their' instead of 'there'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of control over more sophisticated vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to event management and business correspondence. Avoid informal phrasing and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as these small errors can detract from the overall professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include punctuation issues, such as the lack of capital letters for 'sir' and 'i', and errors in verb tense and agreement, such as 'could have be done' instead of 'could have been done'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall quality of the writing. To improve, focus on proofreading your work for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and proper sentence construction.
