You recently helped your company organise an event at a hotel. Write a letter to the hotel manager. In your letter:

– Suggest areas for improvement.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir/ mam,

I am writing this letter to share my feedback regarding the recent event organized by our company in your hotel.

The event was held on 11th of August in the auditorium of your hotel at 12 noon. The topic was related to advantages of remote working for employees, where our chief guest was Mr Khanna.

Everything is organized according to the workshop and its needs. Arrangement of food is also representable which is liked by everyone presented there. I personally liked the slideshow, which is available to explain any topic if needed.

I want to give some suggestions regarding the event, although everything is perfect. Kindly arrange feedback forms at the end of such events, which will further help in improvement of certain areas such as mode of presentation and use of audio-visual aids as every person has distinct pace of learning.

I am looking forward for a positive reply from your side.

Yours sincerely,

Ravleen kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the slideshow, explaining why it was particularly useful would have added more depth. The suggestion for feedback forms is relevant, but the explanation regarding the 'pace of learning' is slightly vague in the context of a hotel event. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but more specific detail would elevate the response to a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the prompt. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'The event was held', 'I personally liked', and 'I want to give some suggestions'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the event description and the positive feedback is abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the reader's understanding.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'auditorium', 'chief guest', and 'audio-visual aids'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'representable' (which is not the standard term for food presentation; 'well-presented' would be better) and 'Everything is organized' (which should be past tense, 'was organized'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations and more sophisticated descriptive language would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles. For example, 'Everything is organized' should be 'Everything was organized' to match the past event, and 'Arrangement of food' requires an article ('The arrangement'). Additionally, 'I am looking forward for' is a common error; the correct preposition is 'to' ('I am looking forward to'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on consistent tense usage and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
