Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to share my feedback following a corporate event that my company recently held at your hotel. I believe both positive aspects and a few areas for improvement may be useful for future planning.
Our company hosted a two-day conference for approximately 60 employees from 15 June to 16 June. The event included keynotes, several breakout workshops and a formal dinner at the main Ballroom of your venue.
I would like to commend your management for maintaining consistent hospitality throughout our stay . The catering was considerably outstanding, with the presentation and quality of the food served. Especially, the dietary restrictions were held with great care and received continuous praise by every attendee.
However, few things were need to be improved for the betterment and the productivity of the hotel. Firstly, the Wi-Fi connectivity is not appropriate during the breakout sessions which disturbed the pace of the workshop. In addition to this, the air conditioning of the Ballroom is not consistent due to which the room gets stuffy during the busiest afternoon. Apart from this I also praise the extra ordinary support of the one of your managers, Mrs Anand for his positive attitude and kindness for resolving the last minutes request very easily. I think these areas should be improved, and I will never hesitate to recommend your hotel for upcoming events. I hope these suggestions will help you in future.
Thank you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the event, including the dates and the nature of the conference. You highlighted specific positive aspects, such as the catering and the support from the manager, and offered constructive suggestions for improvement regarding Wi-Fi and air conditioning. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your correspondence. To reach a higher band, ensure that all suggestions are clearly linked to the overall experience to maintain a consistent focus throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this' and 'Apart from this' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined to separate the positive feedback from the areas for improvement more distinctly. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the praise for the manager and the final recommendation could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'corporate event', 'keynotes', 'breakout workshops', and 'dietary restrictions' effectively. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'the catering was considerably outstanding' (which is slightly unnatural; 'exceptionally high quality' would be better) and 'the Wi-Fi connectivity is not appropriate' (where 'unreliable' or 'inconsistent' would be more precise). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and professionally. You show an ability to use topic-specific language related to event management.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'few things were need to be improved' should be 'a few things needed to be improved', and 'the air conditioning... is not consistent due to which' is slightly awkward. Additionally, there is a gender pronoun error regarding 'Mrs Anand for his positive attitude'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading of verb tenses and pronoun agreement to achieve a higher band.
