Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude for scheduling one of the important events of our company at your hotel.
Last week, I helped my company Kangaroo Studies Pvt Ltd. to organize a seminar including several international institutions and hundreds of prospective students for overseas studies. There is no doubt that my company holds an excellent reputation for immigration services but arranging such a big event in your hotel was definitely a great opportunity for our business to arrange students' meetings with numerous university representatives.
I particularly liked the way everything was arranged by your dedicated team and enough seating capacity was actually fulfilling our requirement to cater maximum number of students. My boss appreciated your team's efforts to make our event successful.
I understand area booked for our seminar was separate from hotel premises but few students reviewed on our website that they were not able to find the location of seminar even after asking help from the hotel reception. It might happened because your reception team was not aware about the scheduled event in the hotel premises. Therefore, I would like to suggest if a notice board near the reception can be placed including details of scheduled events everyday. It would help people to find the place conveniently.
Thanks for your support and diligent efforts to make our event profitable.
Yours sincerely,
Rajwinder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided clear details about the seminar, expressed appreciation for the team's efforts and the venue's capacity, and offered a constructive suggestion regarding signage. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the event details and the hotel's performance is even more tightly integrated, though your current response is already very effective in meeting the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Last week', 'There is no doubt that', 'Therefore', and 'It would help'. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the message. The transition between the positive feedback and the constructive criticism is handled smoothly, maintaining a professional and polite tone throughout the correspondence.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a business context, such as 'prospective students', 'immigration services', 'dedicated team', and 'diligent efforts'. There are a few minor collocation issues, such as 'reviewed on our website' (should be 'left reviews on our website') and 'It might happened' (should be 'It might have happened'). However, these do not impede communication. You use some less common items effectively, which shows a good level of control. Expanding your use of more sophisticated business collocations would help you move into the higher band range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'It might happened' instead of 'It might have happened' and 'cater maximum number of students' which would be better as 'cater to the maximum number of students'. Additionally, 'area booked' should be 'the area booked'. Despite these occasional errors, your control over grammar is strong, and the meaning is never obscured. The punctuation is generally accurate, supporting the flow of your writing.
