Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope this message find you well. I am Bhoutik Gohil from Drive medical company. Recently, our had an event at your hotel and wanted to thank you for hosting such an great event.

All of our guest and associate were impressed with the decoration and arrangement which was done for our event. Especially, the food was so amazing and delicious that few off our clients couldn't wait up for meeting to end.

I was particularly amazed by the way the tables were arranged with our companies brochure and the name tags of our guest which made them feel valued.

However, I would like to suggest something regarding the sound system at the hotel. While our meeting we noticed that few mics were not working properly and also the sound was cracking while we announce or speak something.

Overall, it was good experience at your hotel. Once again thank you so much for hosting us such a great event.

Best Regards,

Bhoutik Gohil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that the details provided are slightly more descriptive. For example, when mentioning the event, you could specify the nature of the meeting or the number of attendees to provide more context. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Overall' to transition between points. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing is precise. For instance, in the second paragraph, 'which was done' is a bit vague; using 'which was meticulously prepared' would improve the flow and clarity of your sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'impressed', 'valued', and 'arrangements'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'our had an event' (should be 'we had') and 'wait up for meeting' (should be 'wait for the meeting'). Additionally, 'cracking' is not the most precise term for audio issues; 'distorted' or 'intermittent' would be more professional. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I hope this message find you well' (should be 'finds'), 'such an great event' (should be 'such a great event'), and 'all of our guest' (should be 'guests'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
