Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing this letter to provide you a feedback for your hotel management.

Last week on sunday my company had organised an event at your place. This event was particularly focused on digital marketing. After completing an event there was a dinner which include in the cost of renting your place. The catering staff and food was very sastified. Staff was very attaintive and got lots of compliments on food from visiters.

Company was not satisfied with only one thing is speakers and mic connectivity. As you know in digital marketing program we need high quality of mic and speakers. We received complaints that speakers were not loud enogh that those who seated at the last in event they couldn't here clearly. Not only this, but range of wire less mic is to short, when the speakers went downstairs into the crowd, mic lost their connectivity.

I hope you will note down my response.

Best regards,

Krish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: the event details, positive aspects of the hotel, and areas for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the event was about digital marketing, providing a bit more context or a specific date would have strengthened the response. The suggestions for improvement are clear, but the overall structure could be more refined to ensure a more professional flow. You have successfully addressed the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Last week', 'Not only this', and 'I hope'. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the flow. For example, the connection between the dinner and the staff could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the positive feedback, the complaints, and the closing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'digital marketing', 'catering staff', and 'connectivity'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and spelling errors, such as 'sastified' (satisfied), 'attaintive' (attentive), 'visiters' (visitors), and 'enogh' (enough). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common professional terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'As you know in digital marketing program we need high quality of mic and speakers'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the' dinner, 'the' speakers), incorrect verb forms ('had organised' instead of 'organized'), and prepositional errors ('provide you a feedback'). While these errors rarely impede the reader's understanding, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
