It is generally perceived by a significant proportion of individuals that old buildings should be restored while others believe that these buildings should be replaced with new buildings of modern architecture. The following essay will discuss the restoration of ancient buildings in contrast to renovation of new modern buildings is given.

Some people believe in this logical idea that old buildings such as towns, halls, art galleries , forts, mosques and museums should be restored by the government of the particular area as it captures the cultural, historical and architectural heritage of a particular region. These buildings not only show the cultural identity of that region nonetheless attraction towards the tourism also elevates. For instance Tokyo and Seoul ancient palaces and castles were restored by the local government of the area by allocating some money for it . In this way, this crucial step will increase tourism in these areas to explore their exotic culture.

In contrast, some people have a strong belief in replacement of these old buildings to new and modern architect. Such as making new housing societies to adjust a significant proportion of individuals in the area to resolve housing crises. A salient example for this point is that, in Singapore affordable housing scheams were established to improve the living quality of the citizens. So, that they can maintain high living standards along with motivation in work.

In my opinion these buildings should be replaced to have new housing and traveling road facilities.

We can conclude that although old buildings are our heritage but these can be replaced to accelerate the wellbeing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0

The response is completely off-topic. The task required a letter to a hotel manager regarding a recent event, including specific details about the event, positive feedback, and suggestions for improvement. Instead, the student wrote an essay discussing the debate between restoring old buildings and constructing new ones. Because the student failed to address the prompt entirely, the response does not fulfill the requirements of the task. It is a memorized or misdirected essay rather than a functional letter. Consequently, it cannot be assessed against the specific bullet points of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a logical progression of ideas within the context of an essay format, using cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'For instance', and 'In my opinion'. However, because the content is entirely irrelevant to the task instructions, the coherence is undermined by the lack of relevance to the prompt. While the structure is clear, the failure to address the actual task makes the overall coherence ineffective for the intended purpose of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a reasonable range of vocabulary, such as 'restored', 'architectural heritage', 'exotic culture', and 'affordable housing schemes'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'renovation of new modern buildings' (renovation usually applies to existing structures) and 'architect' (used instead of 'architecture'). Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the student's arguments clearly, even though those arguments are not relevant to the task. The range is adequate for a standard essay, but the lack of task-specific vocabulary for a formal letter is noted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the restoration of ancient buildings in contrast to renovation of new modern buildings is given' (awkward phrasing) and 'attraction towards the tourism also elevates' (incorrect collocation). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are spacing issues before commas. While the student attempts complex sentences, the frequency of errors in grammar and word order is noticeable. The control of grammar is inconsistent, but the meaning is generally understandable despite the errors.
