Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I writing this letter to give feedback on our company’s recent orientation ceremony for our new hired employees that me and our colleagues organized at on 31st July, 2026. It was from 12 noon to 2 PM in your party hall. And number of seats estimated were around 200.
Related to this, the first thing I liked about your hotel is your organization skills. The event was so well-organized that everything went well was on time. Moreover, The food is another thing that I really want to appreciate you guys. It was fresh, tasty and every dish was spot on. Also, the Air conditioning system is one thing that needs to be appreciated as well.
Although, there were some things that you would improve to make the experience almost perfect. The first one is your parking space is too small, compared to the hotel it needs double the space as of now to get things going. Another one is sanitation and cleaning in bathrooms, almost everyone who used bathrooms complained that bathrooms were not cleaned properly.
I hope you will focus on areas of improvement and make customer’s experience more enjoyable
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the parking space is small, you could have elaborated on how this affected the guests' arrival. The letter is clear and the purpose is immediately apparent to the reader. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with a bit more detail or a specific example to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', and 'Although' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between the event details and the positive feedback could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'orientation ceremony' and 'organization skills'. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'new hired employees' (should be 'newly hired') and 'appreciate you guys' (which is too informal for a formal letter). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more varied adjectives and formal expressions to elevate the tone of your correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I writing this letter' (missing auxiliary verb), 'organized at on 31st July' (preposition error), and 'things that you would improve' (should be 'could improve'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will also help you achieve a higher score.
