Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to provide feedback on our company's recent experience at your hotel.
Every year, in the month of January, The Home Depot #7058 celebrates its annual day party at Holiday Inn. Following this tradition, we chose the same venue again this year. It was notable that recent renovations have been done at the hotel — the party hall looked marvellous with its modern interior, and all our staff were impressed by both the decorations and the table arrangements.
Although it was without a doubt a splendid event, there were a few areas for improvement. The food lounge was beautifully set up, but the taste of the food fell short of expectations. We also conducted a survey after the event to check whether our staff were satisfied, and this year we noticed a number of complaints regarding the food quality. In light of this, I would suggest that the kitchen team consider holding a tasting session with event organizers ahead of future functions, to ensure the menu better matches guests' expectations.
We had a wonderful time overall and would be glad to extend our collaboration in the future. I am confident that the issues mentioned will be taken into consideration. Please let me know if you need any further information.
Best regards,
Hardik

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response fully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly identified the event, highlighted the positive aspects of the venue (modern interior, decorations), and provided a constructive suggestion for improvement (tasting sessions). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, showing a good understanding of the requirements for a General Training Task 1. There are no omissions, and the letter maintains a consistent professional focus throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the positive feedback, then to the areas for improvement, and finally to the conclusion. You have used cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Following this tradition', 'Although', and 'In light of this', which help to link sentences and ideas naturally. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, contributing to a professional and coherent piece of writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is well-suited to the formal context of the letter. Phrases such as 'fell short of expectations', 'extend our collaboration', and 'taken into consideration' are used accurately and naturally. There is a good balance of common and less common lexical items. The word choice is precise, and there are no instances where vocabulary errors impede communication. The language is sophisticated enough to convey your message clearly and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
The writing displays a high level of grammatical accuracy with a variety of sentence structures. You successfully use complex sentences, such as 'We also conducted a survey after the event to check whether our staff were satisfied, and this year we noticed a number of complaints regarding the food quality.' Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and there are no significant errors that distract the reader. The majority of sentences are error-free, and the control over tense and agreement is consistent, which is indicative of a high level of proficiency.
