Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. Lat week, Our company organized one of the meeting at your hotel. We booked it for business meeting, and 50 representatives attended it. Your Staff dealt very professionally, and well aware how to tackle with professional clients.
A part from this, I must say food service was top-notch. Our every client admires all the provided meals and beverages. Meeting room was too spacious.
However, I would like to suggest few areas for improvements. The Wi-Fi connection was not so good. It creates hurdles during the first half of the presentation. Also, there should be more attendant at reception. So the registration process will be easy for future meetings.
Overall, our experience with our hotel was amazing. We will be happy to consider it for future company events. Thank you once again for your excellent hospitality.
Yours faithfully,
Eva

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of ideas. While the purpose is clear, the content is somewhat brief. To improve, you should expand on the details of the event (e.g., the nature of the business) and provide more specific examples of the 'hurdles' caused by the Wi-Fi or the 'professionalism' of the staff. This would ensure a more comprehensive response that fully satisfies the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'A part from this' and 'However' to transition between ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or incorrectly phrased (e.g., 'A part from this' should be 'Apart from this'). The flow between sentences is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more effectively used to separate the positive feedback from the constructive suggestions. Improving the variety of linking words would help the text feel more natural and cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'representatives', 'top-notch', and 'hospitality'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'tackle with professional clients' (should be 'handle' or 'deal with') and 'more attendant' (should be 'more attendants'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'Lat week' instead of 'Last week'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are grammatically and contextually accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Examples include 'organized one of the meeting' (should be 'meetings'), 'Your Staff dealt very professionally' (missing a direct object or preposition), and 'there should be more attendant' (should be plural). Punctuation is generally functional, but the recurring subject-verb agreement and pluralization errors indicate a need for more careful proofreading to ensure accuracy in your writing.
