Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir ,

Hope this letter finds you well and sound . I would like to inform you about the meeting that took place on previous Wednesday by our company LIC co- operations .

To begin with , the positive impression was being shed by spacious confrence rooms which helps the participants to make themselves comfortable so , was with the parking spots ample and wide .

The thing that catches my eye were that wheelchiars accessibilty services was also provided and the staff itself was elegant and welcoming . the outlook of the hotel itself was tempting so was the reveiws online .

Perhaps , the food being served was not top notch in terms of limited variety and some do find it cold which isn't suppose to be good . However , the quality and taste can be mainted by adding more choices such vegan or continental dishes .

Looking forward for another meeting in your hotel and would be pleased to see improvemrnts.

Yours faithfully,

Prem

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing event details, mentioning positive aspects, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For instance, the details about the event are vague, only mentioning the company name and the timing. The suggestions for improvement are relevant but could be more specific to the event experience. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the structure is slightly disjointed due to the brevity of the paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more specific examples or explanations regarding the event and the hotel facilities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'To begin with, the positive impression was being shed by...' and 'The thing that catches my eye were that...'. These transitions do not always flow naturally. Additionally, some sentences are poorly connected, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accessibility', 'continental', and 'spacious'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'well and sound' (instead of 'safe and sound' or 'well'), 'shed by' (inappropriate in this context), and 'isn't suppose to be good' (informal and imprecise). There are also spelling errors like 'confrence', 'wheelchiars', 'reveiws', 'mainted', and 'improvemrnts'. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of natural English collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The thing that catches my eye were that wheelchiars accessibilty services was also provided') and incorrect verb forms ('isn't suppose to be' instead of 'isn't supposed to be'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
