Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing this letter to you because in last month, our corporation hosted an eventful day at a Grand Canyon Hotel for the success party of our company's 25 years of excellence, and i wanted personally to congratulate on the work that your staff did, it was so good.
The event was really a mesmerising and it included all the employees who are working in the company and the alumni associates. The party had different types of food and different drinks such as mocktails, juices and wine.
The most important thing that I really loved is the decoration and lightings, that really gave good vibes and the rooms where we stayed the service were wonderful. The main highlight was that employees were so deep dive into the event that they did not want to leave the place the whole night, they wanted to enjoy the event till the morning.
Although, there were some places where you needed some enhancements like the tables were not arranged perfectly and, because of that groups were not able to sit together and had to bring in the chair at one table.
I hope you find the reviews good and hope to see you again for the event again.
kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting areas for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset. While the ideas are relevant, some could be developed with more precision; for instance, the description of the event is slightly vague. However, the letter fulfills the requirements of the task effectively, maintaining a consistent focus throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the positive aspects and the suggestions for improvement could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but some sentences are slightly disjointed due to punctuation errors, which affects the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some attempts at using more descriptive language, such as 'mesmerising' and 'enhancements'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'deep dive into the event' and 'bring in the chair'. These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they do limit the range of vocabulary to a more functional level rather than a sophisticated one.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding article usage ('a Grand Canyon Hotel'), verb tense consistency ('in last month'), and punctuation (comma splices). For example, the first sentence is a run-on that would benefit from being split into two. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
