Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to share my experience at your hotel. As we have arrange a company event on 10 August,2026.

The event was about the group decision related to business promotion. There was gathering of around 50 people. Everything was arranged according to the instructions given by the manager which was quite impressive. Therefore, event was completed successfully.

The sound system and the sitting arrangements was perfect. As we asked to provide 10 chairs around 1 table and which was very amazing. Apart from it, the food was very delicious as everything was freshly cooked.

Overall everything was quite impressive but I would like to suggest one thing that please provide extra napkins and bins in the hall as there was one one bin in the floor. And once that was filled everything was coming out which looks very bad.

I hope you will take care of this for the next time. And I am really thankful for all the efforts. See you next time.

Yours Sincerely,

Supreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the sound system and food, the description could be more detailed to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' requirement of higher bands. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the response effectively communicates the necessary information to the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition 'Apart from it' is slightly unnatural, and the use of 'And' to start sentences is repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', 'Consequently') would help the flow of the letter and elevate the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. You use some relevant terms like 'business promotion' and 'freshly cooked'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'there was one one bin in the floor' and 'everything was coming out'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary to describe your experiences and suggestions more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'As we have arrange' should be 'As we arranged', and 'the sitting arrangements was' should be 'the seating arrangements were'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases (e.g., 'in the floor' instead of 'on the floor'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of subject-verb agreement and tense consistency.
