Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter regarding the event organized by our company at your hotel on last Saturday.
This event was about the discussion of our upcoming project in Mumbai and specialists from multiple cities joined this event which make the event more bright. Further, everyone was impressed by the well designed structure of conference hall. Chairs were very comfortable and your supervision conducted checks after every 2 hours to provide help with basic needs.
I really enjoy the environment of the area because your hotel is away from overwhelming crowd of city. More over, my co-workers and other team members were impressed by the food. Your kitchen staff done their duty very well. Species, quality and quantity of food was perfect. This is the first time I saw robots as servers.
Overall my experience was very good. I observed that parking lot have no security cameras, it will be more beneficial for guests if you install some security cameras at parking lot for the safety of vehicles.
Thank you for you time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: providing details about the event, mentioning positive aspects of the hotel, and suggesting an area for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the event is brief, and the suggestion regarding security cameras could be more persuasively framed. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the response would benefit from more detailed elaboration on the event's nature and a more professional structure to fully meet the requirements of a Band 7 or higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a clear opening and closing. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, 'More over' is used incorrectly as a transition, and the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and some awkward phrasing in transitions prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their message clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'overwhelming crowd' and 'supervision', but there are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'make the event more bright' (instead of 'brighter' or 'more successful') and 'Species' (likely meant 'Spices'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a limited range and some lack of precision in word usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'on last Saturday' (should be 'last Saturday'), 'kitchen staff done their duty' (should be 'did their duty'), and 'parking lot have no security cameras' (should be 'has'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with sentence boundaries and article usage. While the errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the message, which is consistent with the Band 6 descriptor.
