Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my experience about recent event at your hotel.
The event happened last Sunday, at the hall of the hotel. It was a business workshop. Employees from different companies and cities had come to attend the workshop to learn about some important terms to grow business.
I really enjoyed prepping the arrangements because staff at your hotel is really friendly and cooperative. They helped to provide all the necessary things required to organize the event. Moreover, the decoration and ambience of hotel is really appealing.
However, I feel seating arrangement could be better. All the seats should be placed in front of the stage because some of the seat were at the corner, due to which stage was not visible to some guests. Furthermore, one time mike stops working during the lecture, and it took around ten minutes to fix the issue. I would suggest to keep extra mike to use for next time in case one stops working.
I hope these suggestions would help to organize better events next time.
Yours faithfully,
Harshdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: providing details about the business workshop, highlighting the positive aspects of the hotel staff and ambiance, and suggesting improvements regarding seating and technical equipment. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, fulfilling the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail about the event, such as the number of attendees or the specific nature of the workshop, to further develop the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While the structure is sound, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is always precise. For example, 'one time mike' is slightly awkward; a more cohesive approach would be 'on one occasion, the microphone failed'. Overall, the paragraphing is effective and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ambience', 'cooperative', and 'arrangements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'express my experience about' (should be 'share my feedback regarding') and 'prepping the arrangements' (which is slightly informal). The use of 'mike' is also informal; 'microphone' would be more appropriate in a formal letter. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal abbreviations to enhance the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('at the hall of the hotel' should be 'at the hotel hall', 'one time mike' should be 'the microphone'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('staff... is' is acceptable, but 'some of the seat were' should be 'some of the seats were'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, focus on consistent article usage and pluralization, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
